Fix Acne With This

I have a couple of teens at my house who’ve struggled with acne. And, I have tried all sorts of remedies with varying degrees of success. To be clear, there are some really good prescription topical medications available, but the problem we’ve encountered at our house has been in my children’s inconsistency using them. Recently, I finally broke down and saw a friend of mine (an awesome dermatologist) to get my teens started on Accutane.

(I’m including a link below from The Cleveland Clinic on Accutane. It’s not an ad, just some good information from a reputable source. It’s worth checking out.)

The good news is that you can use Accutane for mild and moderate cases—it doesn’t have to be just for crazy severe cases. And, you can take it a couple times a day for a few months and then be done, or you can spread out the treatment over the long term.

The advantage to spreading out treatment over the long-term is fewer side effects (red, dry, peeling skin). It’s also worth noting that there are generic medications now available at are significantly cheaper (I pay $30/month vs. the hundreds that it once was).

Accutane does have some serious side effects (think birth defects if you get pregnant while on it), but it’s nice to know that there are options out there. As I tell my kids, “this is not the 80’s folks, no need to endure a pizza face.”

😀 P.S. If this information is helpful, PLEASE forward to a friend. The more, the merrier 💕.

2025 Vaccination Schedule Updates

The CDC came out last month with some updates to the childhood vaccine schedule for things like polio, tetanus, measles, and more. Regardless of your stance on vaccines—I realize this is a hot-button topic for some—I think it’s a good idea for parents to know about the recommendations and the updates. If you know, you can make the best decisions for you and your child.

Here’s a link to the info you should know. It’s worth checking out.

Funny Thing: Scary Doctors

I walked into the exam room for a new patient 5-year well-child check and introduced myself. As is my custom, I chatted with the little girl and joked with her while I did her exam. We had a delightful visit and the girl was very sweet. At the end of the visit, I expressed that it was nice to meet her and stood to go.

At that point, the girl piped up, “When is the doctor coming in?”

(Apparently, she had missed my introduction).

I smiled and she continued, “I am really scared to see the doctor. Doctors are scary.”

I agreed, “Doctors are scary!” and left the room.
